Review

Apologies!!! This translation is made with Google Translator!

Terra Incognita is the fourth work of the Germans Coronatus, edited by Massacre Records. The first thing we notice is the eighteen members who have gone before by the band's twelve years of existence. Currently the band consists of Mats Kurth drums, Dirk Baur bass, Aria Keramati Noori guitar, "Psalm 87" keyboards and vocals Mareike Makosch and Ada Flechtner, two female vocals, Ada with the symphonic and Mareike more conventional rock.

Coronatus in this fourth album did not work away from the path blazed by his previous work but this Terra Incognita is not as extreme, symphonic voices are not so and the same goes with guitars, may have had something to do with now have a guitar less. With the same mixture of symphonic and gothic metal influenced by folk, this time the rhythms and compositions become more affordable to a wider audience.

From the very first song, Saint Slayer, we noticed some heavy guitars and strong melodic colliding with the voice of Ada, including that of Maraike also in lower tones and a more direct style and keyboards that fill the subject dark and gothic atmosphere.

The single of this Terra Incognita is the very folk, Fernes Land, which has little in common with the beginning of the disk. Gothic arrangements give way to a more festive bagpipes and catchy lyrics alternately by the two voices, with beautiful vocals, another feature of Coronatus, which appear in every court and that greatly enrich this disc. I would say that without the interplay of two voices, Coronatus lose most of its appeal by becoming a band of the bunch.

Among the twelve tracks of Terra Incognita we can highlight Dead Mans Tale, In Signo Crucis or Das Zweite Gesicht with a breathtaking vocals and choirs, Traumzeit that with Fernes Land are the folkest tracks of the disk, although this is much faster, direct and powerful. Sie Stehn Am Weg or Der Kleriker are the gothic side of the album. And we could not ignore that in my opinion is the working theme of the album, Terra Incognita also closes it.

An album that despite a change in the voices, always unpredictable situation for a group, and without entering into a comparison between the vocalists, which in most cases does nothing to undermine the new jobs to focus on eternal debate if Carmen R. Lorch is better or worse than Ada, we can say that Terra Incognita is an album that will please fans of the band and despite a bit away from the Gothic scene will please all fans of bands led by female vocals.
